The setting: New Beijing, sometime in the distant future.
The characters: Lihn Cinder, a gifted cyborg mechanic with a mysterious past, and Prince Kai, handsome son of Earth’s emperor.
The plot: With her father dead, Cinder is despised by her stepmother, blamed for her stepsister’s illness, and forced to work as a mechanic in the marketplace where she meets with great success. It is here that she meets Prince Kai when he brings his favorite robot to Cinder for repair. The Prince is struggling to maintain order on Earth while his father is dying from the plague gripping the population. Earth is also under attack from the Lunar people who want to take over. It isn’t long before the two are attracted to each other. Then it is on to the ball, the glass slipper and other Cinderella story elements. This is the first in The Lunar Chronicles, a fun, fantasy series of four books, each based off of a traditional fairy tale.
